Bible-bashers. The insulting term presumably coming from the habit of some preachers, especially fundamentalist ones, of thumping their bibles as they preach. Right up there, for some people, with ‘God-botherers’ in general. There is plenty I could say about them, for there are often extremely dubious things said and done in the name of ‘literalism’ and the like, but that’s not really what this section is about. It’s about the other kind of ‘bible-bashers’, those who see the bible as historically inaccurate and morally anachronistic or invalid because of its human origins in the Ancient Near East culture. Whether it is Muslims, atheists and humanists, liberal theologians or Dan Brown type conspiracy theorists, the bible as the reliable Word of God is under attack. That’s not particularly new, but in our age such attacks are at fever pitch, suffusing the social atmosphere, putting out a blinding fog that effectively blocks from the popular perception the incredible discoveries and evidence for the historical reliability and current moral and societal relevance of the bible, and this section is for articles that will, God willing, help to blow away the blinding fog and let in the light by pointing to sources, articles and the like that expose the lies and the confusions that are out there.
